Pere Ubu's "Ubu Communex" newsletter #4 from September 1979 states "1000 copies printed in Sept. '77, all with pic sleeves."
Modern Dance was recorded January 1977 along with Non-Alignment Pact, the intended B side. Heaven was recorded in March. Modern Dance was probably mixed at Suma 7/8/77.
Front cover is a cropped version of the red/pink variation of "Soft Spot", a 1976 silkscreen print set by Cynthia Black, based on a photo by Steve Kornajcik. Black is also the model in the photo which was taken on a gravel deposit in the Cleveland Flats.
