本ボックスは、同様に40周年を記念して'08年に限定発売されたボックス『THE ROAD: VOLUMES 1-5』『THE ROAD: VOLUMES 6-10』『THE STUDIO: VOLUMES 1-5』の3作品に収録されていた内容を網羅。CDには、Bob Drakeによるリマスターを施した、SLAPP HAPPYとの'75年連名作『DESPERATE STRAIGHTS』を含む'73年作『LEG END』から'78年作『WESTERN CULTURE』までの全スタジオ作5タイトル及び『THE ROAD: VOLUMES 1-5』『~ VOLUMES 6-10』に収録された'71年から'78年までのライブ/リハーサル音源を、DVDには『THE ROAD: VOLUME 6-10』に収録されたものと同様、TV放送用に録画された'76年8月スイスVevey公演のパフォーマンスを捉えたライブ映像を収録。更に、'74年~'75年英/欧州ツアーの模様を収録・CD化に際し追加収録された'73年11月Oxford公演の抜粋ライブ音源を含む'76年作『CONCERTS』及び、『THE ROAD: VOLUMES 1-5』『~ VOLUMES 6-10』の予約者特典CDとして当時限定配布された、'72年~'78年のアウトテイク/リハーサル/ライブ音源によって構成されたコンピレーション作『A COW CABINET OF CURIOSITIES』を上記3ボックスの内容に加えて収録。

This collection brings together the full contents of the three former boxes, with the addition of a further 60pp booklet of newly unearthed, or commissioned, band commentaries, pictures and other documents prepared specifically for this release - as well as re-mastered versions of all the studio CDs and the rare bonus CD (Cabinet of Curiosities), which came with the subscription edition of the original boxed set.
Subscribers to this boxset received a free bonus CD, Ex Box Collected Fragments 1971 - 1978. ReR Megacorp also made this CD available for separate purchase.
