David Tudor's(1926-1996) identity morphed seamlessly from interpreter of mainly acoustic music to composer-performer of predominately electronic music over a period of about ten years, from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. This set of seven CDs, the first truly comprehensive survey of Tudor's work as a composer, goes beyond any previous attempt to document that process of transformation. It captures his touch and sensitivity and offers an expansive, previously unavailable view onto more than three decades of Tudor's astonishingly original work as an electronic musician. It neatly describes the arc of his career, from his first composition, Bandoneon ! (A Combine), through the fully-realized works of his long collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Six works that were issued in excerpted form in Music for Merce (1952-2009) are issued here complete. Other highlights include the live soundscapes for the Pepsi Pavilion at the 1970 Osaka World Expo, the marvelous simultaneous performance with John Cage of Mesostics Re Merce Cunningham/Untitled, and two extended binaural recordings of Rainforest IV with Composers Inside Electronics, the best recorded documents of this signature work. While Cage has finally more or less received his due, Tudor's own accomplishments have been somewhat overshadowed and are ripe for a proper re-evaluation. It is our hope that the release of this set will prompt a thorough reconsideration of his seminal achievements.

A welcome reissue of last year's tiny CDr edition of 'A Paper Doll's Whisper

Of Spring'.
Here beautifully remastered by Denis Blackham of Skye Mastering and pressed
onto 140 gramme vinyl with DMM cut and printed sleeve, plus a Japanese obi strip.

Vikki's third album (here accompanied by Andrew Chalk and Jean-Noel Rebilly as a trio-
playing synthesizer and clarinet, respectively) after 2008's Whispering Pages,
is a more reflective collection of pieces, often centred around the electric piano and
arrangements of reeds and electronics.
In an edition of 400 copies, 'A Paper Doll's Whisper Of Spring'
finds its most just publication in the analogue medium, fitting to the quality of the
spirit of the eight pieces it contains.

ESPのアイラー「SPIRITUAL UNITY」ほどジャケット・デザインが同じで色違いのジャケットがたくさんあるレコードも珍しいのではないのだろうか？ヤフオクでも3rdや4thプレスまたは6、7thあたりのプレスを激レア！オリジナルと書いてある見だしには笑うしかないが、本物がそれほど多く日本に存在するとは考えられない。
オリジナル盤は白ジャケットに薄茶色の塗料を塗って、その上に赤のシルクスクリーン印刷がしてある手作りジャケット。裏もシルクスクリーン印刷。本作品は正規発売前の通販のみの販売らしく裏ジャケットの右下に「This pressing is a special pre-release edition numbrering 200 copies. ～serial number 116」と書いてある。本来だったらアイラーの自筆サインが入ったコピーが１枚入っているはずであるが所有のレコードは残念ながら欠落している。さてこのレコードはアイラーの自筆サインだけでは終わらない話題がある。このレコード1stプレスのみB面の「SPIRITS」に全く違う曲が入っている。。最近のCDで「SPIRITUAL UNITY＋１」となっているのは（確認していないが）この最初入っていた曲だと思う。すぐに間違ったスタンパーが差し替えられ、おそらく2ndプレス（黒地のジャケットのシルク印刷？）では本来の「SPIRITS」に戻ったと思われる。以後のレコードにはB面のみ「Bellsound」のマークが入るが片面にしか「Bellsound」の文字がないのにはこういう理由がある
「SPIRITUAL UNITY」は今となっては古典フリーというよりもモダンに近く初心者にも聞きやすいジャズで赤ラベル以外の溝あり文字ラベル（6、7thプレス？）やオレンジラベル（10th以降？）のあたりまでは音質が非常によく一度聴いてみても面白いと思う。今聴くと、きっとフリーとはあまり感じられないだろう。アイラーの最高傑作で、このレコードで完璧なアイラーの世界を体験出来る　（引用）

今回紹介するのは島田璃里のサティーと小杉武久の即興演奏によるデュオ作品の1枚目で、1980年12月に秦野にあったジャズ喫茶「すとれんじふるうつ」（現在は大磯に移転）で行われたライヴレコーディングです。レーベルはFlowerdogsで、製作はコジマ録音（→委託プレスでしょうか）。ラベルに両方のカタログナンバーが付いています。曲名の記載はありませんが、あやしい記憶を頼りに書きました。

ちょっとホンキートンクっぽい音で淡々と紡がれる島田璃里のサティーに、自由奔放に動き回る小杉武久の即興が重なって、なんともいえない不思議な空間が浮かび上がります。小杉武久の演奏は多少調和が取られた感じのする次作「記憶の海」よりもはじけている印象です。
